Dal Piano Nazionale Industria 4.0: “L’espressione Industria 4.0 è collegata alla cosiddetta “quarta rivoluzione industriale”. Resa possibile dalla disponibilità di sensori e di connessioni wireless a basso costo, questa nuova rivoluzione industriale si associa a un impiego sempre più pervasivo di dati e informazioni, di tecnologie computazionali e di analisi dei dati, di nuovi materiali, componenti e sistemi totalmente digitalizzati e connessi (Internet of Things)”.

 

Come muoversi tra gli standard di comunicazione wireless per Internet of Things, di ieri, oggi e domani?

NB-IOT, LoRa, Zigbee, 6lowPAN: quale tecnologia, per ogni ambito applicativo (impianti industriali, agricoltura di precisione, città ed edifici intelligenti)?

 

Il corso descrive con taglio pratico le principali tecnologie wireless per Industria 4.0 e illustra usecase in vari ambiti applicativi.

Mathematical Foundations of Future WIreless Networks

 Torino, Italy

 

 

The need for serving heterogenous users  and distribute even more heterogenous contents  in a timely manner in the 4G planning has already led to a significant increase of wireless networks and links model complexity. Indeed, this is even more evident in current efforts toward 5G design. The presence of an ever-increasing  number of users and the nowadays assessed advantages coming from the (alternative and/or combined) deployment of a huge number of small cells and large number of Base Station antennas forced to resort to statistical mechanics methodologies for analysis and design of random wireless networks. Mathematical tools that are strictly related to this field are random matrix theory, free probability and combinatorics, whose most recent advancements were partly put  forth by need of mathematical tools from the wireless community.

The school focuses on very recent and already paramount results in the mentioned fields, with applications in cognitive and cooperative networking, multiple-antenna systems design, signal processing on wireless networks and multi-cell relay-aided networking. A class on advanced optimization strategies for resource allocation in multi-antenna, multi-cell wireless networks is also given, to complement the fundamental mathematical tools required for future generations design.

  • Getting there

 

From Torino Porta Nuova (main station, terminal of the shuttle bus from Torino Caselle Airport)There is a bus stop right aside the main entrance of the new building, called "Castelfidardo n. 29". The bus stopping there is n. 58. It takes only 10 minutes from Torino Porta Nuova. Terminal of bus 58 is located right outside Hotel Roma, which is the one where speakers are lodged.  Other convenient connections from Torino Porta Nuova are bus 33 and 58 (stop "Politecnico") or 12 (stop "Duca Abruzzi").

From Torino Porta Susa (closest railway station, high speed trains and train connections with France stop there too)
Take tram n. 10 at "Questura" in direction Settembrini, and stop by "Politecnico" (5 minutes).

Politecnico is further served by bus number 42 and by tram 15 e 16. Underground stop "Vinzaglio", bus stops for lines 5, 5/, 64, 55, 68 and tram 9 are within walking distance. One-way ticket costs 1,50, Daily ticket 5,00, weekly card 12, if you are planning to spend the weekend in Turin have a look here to get touristic cards with public transportation and Museums all-inclusive for a short period (from 48h on).

From Torino Caselle
There is a shuttle bus service by Sadem which runs continuously between 5 A.M. and 23. The ticket costs 6,50, you can buy roundtrip in advance for 12 (look here). The journey lasts around 40 minutes with intermediate stops (ask the driver).

From Milano Malpensa
The shuttle bus runs relatively often and the rating is quite competitive wrt going to Milan and taking a train to Turin, while lasting the same amount of time (2h). More information can be found here.

From Bergamo-Orio al Serio ask the local organizers by email because it strongly depends on your arrival time.

Here there is a list of suggested accomodations. We recommend you to book your stay as soon as possible, due to the concurrency of several events in the city center during the week (Theater Season Opening, Turin Film Festival).

Hotel Roma Rocca, nearby the main station (Torino Porta Nuova). Bus 58 to school premises leaves right in front of the main door of the hotel.

Hotel Bologna, few steps from Hotel Roma, stops of the shuttle bus from airport within few meters from the entrance.

Hotel Urbani, still close to Torino Porta Nuova, in the characteristic "Quartiere San Salvario".

The Winter School participants will be provided with an attendance certificate. Students requiring validation of the ECTS credits following their attendance of the summer school (possibly including the poster session participation) should check with their home institution about the required validation criteria ahead of the event and get in touch with the organizers to arrange a more formal type of examination if needed. Attendees requiring a certificate for ECTS credits will have to take a written test after the school. The test will consist in writing a report of the courses. This document (3 to 5 pages) should contain:

- a summary of two of the 6 lectures (the choice is left to the student);

- a short discussion about how these results can be used or applied by the student in the context of his/her own research work, if applicable.

The report should be submitted by email within the two weeks following the school, and will be given a grade (pass/fail) by the TPC members.
